CMDB federation, a dream since ITIL was introduced years back. Based on various customer and partner requirements, 1Gateway capabilities have been extended to address these needs.
We are finalizing work on the CMDB federation use case for 1Gateway. It’s amazing how hard it is to keep a central CMDB updated. Yet all the information needed is usually available somewhere, in monitoring systems, network discovery tools, or spreadsheets. The main challenge we had to overcome for this use case was CI matching. How do you determine that two CIs as seen by two different tools are really the same device? We implemented a flexible matching logic to do just that.
CMDB federation feature for all customers will be available with the upcoming 1Gateway v3 release, later this year. Stay tuned for the release announcement.
